Indoor Bowling Club
The 2018 -2019 season has come to a close. Our last night was 3rd April which included the AGM and prize giving. Despite our low numbers this season, the Club did very well. We were runners-up in the League competitions and runners-up in the Open Fours knockout competition.
On 5th April we had our annual night out at the Bowling Stadium in Inverness. This is the full length carpet which takes time to get used to. We were joined by some of our friends from Resolis and Muir of Ord Bowling Clubs. A most enjoyable evening was had by all.
On 10th April we had our annual dinner at the Priory Hotel in Beauly. The hotel served up the usual excellent food which was enjoyed by everyone.
If you feel you might be interested in bowling then please come along and give it a try. We have lots of bowls of varying sizes and you would be most welcome. We play on Wednesday and Friday each week. Our new season begins on the first Wednesday in October through to April.
The Club was formed in 1978 when a group of residents of Culbokie met and appointed office bearers who made enquiries about purchasing some second-hand equipment to get the Club up and running. They managed to get two carpets with underfelts for £30. The Club was up and running, meeting weekly on Fridays. One of the founder members is a well-known local farmer, Don Dingwall.
ln order to raise funds to buy new equipment the club held several very successful Whist Drives and in 1981 were able to purchase two new carpets and four sets of bowls. They joined the Black Isle and District Indoor Bowling League in 1982.
Members now meet twice a week in Findon Hall - Wednesday and Friday, 7.30pm to 10.00pm, October to April. The Club takes part in various Ross-shire area competitions. There are league and club competitions. There is also an annual social evening with our near neighbours Resolis Bowling Club. It is usually a busy season.
Our game is known as short carpet bowls so by way of a change at the end of the season members have a trip to Inverness Bowling Stadium to experience full length bowling which they always find most enjoyable.
We are a friendly club and it is a pleasant way to spend an evening. Bowls are available for prospective members to try the game. New members are welcome.
