Dear CCT Members, Supporters and Friends,
We have our indoor market this Saturday, March 16th, in Findon Hall from 10am until noon. This month there will be TBI seed potatoes at 20p per tuber. Please bring your own bags. Seeds are still available for a small donation. We must be getting close to summer as our Sharing Shed returns to summer hours (09:00 – 18:00) on April 1st

Tickets for the Sir Ian Rankin evening on April 13th have been sold out for a couple of weeks now! If you’ve reserved tickets and are coming to the market on Saturday, please could you pick up and pay for your tickets at the CCT stall (cash only). This will, hopefully, help to avoid too big a queue at the door on the night!

Other exciting activities to read about in this newsletter (and hopefully take part in) are a one-day training course in using the Austrian scythe on May 8th from 9am to 3pm and the Bumblebee ID Workshop on Culbokie Green on Saturday, June 22nd between 2 and 4pm.

The drainage connections for the toilet block on Culbokie Green are now completed and we have the electrical feed planned in with SSEN for late April. Work continues on applying for grants for the toilet block superstructure.

If you have any feedback on the topics in the newsletter, please feel free to get in touch at: chair@culbokiect.org.

SIR IAN RANKIN - SOLD OUT

Many thanks to all those who have bought tickets for the Ian Rankin evening next month.  We are delighted that he has proved so popular but really sorry that with the capacity of the Hall we are now completely sold out.  We already have a waiting list so if anyone who has bought tickets and can no longer attend please let us know so they can be reallocated (event@culbokiect.org).  Please do not turn up on the night unless you have a ticket.

For those who were unable to secure a ticket - and everyone else of course - you may like to know that the Friends of CCT had priority in booking.  Why not consider becoming a Friend of CCT through a regular donation, however small.  All our funds contribute to the development of further facilities for the village and help to establish security for the future.  Full details are available here.

Summer Hours from 1st April
Open Every Day 0900-1800 beside Church
We have been fortunate this month to receive donations from Fareshare, Culbokie Primary School and via Fortrose Masonic Lodge. These have provided a wider range of non-perishable food items which means more choice for folk in our community.

As the weather improves we’ll be giving the shed a bit of spruce up meaning it will be closed for a couple of days. We’ll let you know when.

Please continue to support our lovely little shed with whatever suitable items you have to spare.
If there are specific needs within the community then please let us know.  All monetary donations help provide additional food items. Please donate if you can when you borrow or take an item from the shed.

(Donations can be popped into the bins at the back but please ensure items are complete, in date, clean and no clothes/shoes/material etc)
Thanks to all for your continued support.

Green Team

The Green Team meet each Thursday from 2-4pm on Culbokie Green for some maintenance task plus a bit of social interaction. If you are free pop along and join us, you will be made very welcome.

If you are working, does your employer give you some volunteering time? Perhaps you could use this time to help out at the Green Team each week and count this as your volunteering time?
Learn to Scythe

We have a few places left on a one-day training course in using the Austian scythe, based in Culbokie, on May 8th from 9am to 3pm. This course is free for people who are keen to learn this skill and are willing to spend a few hours each year in late summer helping to mow the Culbokie Green meadow. The course will be led by Rob Brodie who is experienced in running scythe workshops. All equipment will be provided for course participants.

There has been a revival in scything over the past 15 years as its a brilliant way to mow long grass without noise or fumes. While it requires some fitness its more about technique than strength. The Austian scythe is a delight to work with - once you've got the hang of it.

To register interest, contact Penny on info@culbokiect.org
Bumblebee ID Course - 22nd June

Everyone loves bumblebees - and here is a chance to learn a bit about them right here in the village - and for free. Book your place by contacting Penny on info@culbokiect.org (poster attached)

History report for CCT March 2024

One of the most important archaeological features in our area, the Teanagairn Henge, received it's bi-annual tidy up to prepare it for the visitors we hope will come to view it. Over the years it's importance in the archaeological landscape has been acknowledged and we are grateful to Andrew Newton and members of NOSAS for their interest in looking after this for the community. Access to the site is not of the easiest. It can be accessed from the A9 where there is a convenient lay- by. For locals, the alternative is from the B9169 at Teanagairn Cottage. Details and photographs are available from the above web page. These access points have the full consent of the appropriate landowners.

We are currently working on the provision of a search facility that will access in depth the content of the many documents available throughout the site. For example copies of the series 2 Noticeboards which contain a wealth of information which we hope will be of interest to researchers of Culbokie history.

When accessing the site it is useful to check “Recently changed pages” displayed in the right-hand column.

As always we welcome your material and suggestions for adding to the history of Culbokie. Contact can be made through history@culbokiect.org
